CLICK HERE to hear their song for you.
The performers who begin the recording are the original members of the troupe. They first performed in You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown in Waimea in 2009, and this song was featured in the production.
Then there’s the next generation of troupe members who are in college now. Finally, the current troupe members are the younger kids who take classes with us now, even as we stay apart, keeping together by Zoom.
Original troupe members Paul Gregg and Marena Dunnington put this production of “Happiness” together. It took about 12 hours of work between collecting the videos, mixing the sound, lining everything up, and deciding which performers went where.
Almost all of the original troupe members have gone on to pursue professional careers in theatre arts, and they often come home to Kahilu for our productions, and to teach in our classes and camps.
As Board member Beth Dunnington describes, “I’m so proud of them. I hope you are too. I’m proud that they got their training on our Kahilu stage and in our classes.”
Here’s to Happiness!

"And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being..." Kitty O'Meara
We at Kahilu Theater have slowed down just a little bit, working together, from a distance, to adjust to our pandemic pause and strategize possible futures. We have made the difficult decision to extend our closure to the public through August 31, 2020. Our production of Matilda the Musical has been rescheduled to June 18 -20, 2021.
We are enormously grateful for our friends and fans who have reached out with encouragement, both with words and with their philanthropy. Our heartfelt thanks to Marianne Maynard, to Lex and Ebby Pinson, and to Rhoady Lee and Alan Gartenhaus of Kamuela, for recent gifts needed to help us in the months ahead.
We hope you are enjoying the creativity coming to us, via technology, from near and far, as artists give their time and talents to lift our spirits and soothe our souls.
With gratitude and aloha,

Kahilu Theatre: Continued COVID-19 Response

Aloha Kahilu ʻOhana,
For years now, we have effortlessly found ways to share with you news and noteworthy activities at Kahilu Theatre. Today, however, everything is so different, and choosing the right words to cohesively communicate is daunting.
First and foremost, we miss you. We miss the bright lights of our Theatre, not just the ones that light our stage, but also the illumination that happens when artists and audiences connect.
We just made the difficult decision for Kahilu Theatre to remain closed to the public through the month of May. Our summer programs are cautiously on hold and in parallel we are seeking numerous ways to sustain our organization.
Kahilu Theatre is enormously grateful for unexpected and much needed financial support to help us in the months ahead. Our heartfelt thanks to enduring friends of Kahilu Theatre: Kate Bell and Tom Blackburn, Marsha and Tom Kerley, and Mimi and Brian Kerley.
Another form of support is headed our way from the other side of our island. Ledward Kaapana alerted us of his concert this Saturday at 1 pm from the virtual platform of Facebook Live. Mahalo nui Led for sharing your ki hoalu mastery and Hawaiian style.
With gratitude and aloha,
Deb Goodwin Chuck Gessert

Kahilu Theatre: COVID-19 Response

Aloha Kahilu ʻOhana,
As recommended by the Hawai`i State Department of Health and out of our concern for the health and safety of our patrons, students and all of our guests, Kahilu Theatre has made the difficult decision to suspend public operations.
Effective March 14, we will postpone all Kahilu Theatre events through April 30, 2020. We are working to reschedule artists and performances for future dates. If you have purchased a ticket for an event that is postponed you may hold your ticket for the rescheduled event, donate your ticket if the new date doesn't work for you, or request a refund.
In addition, please keep in mind that cancellations of performances and gatherings have rapidly become widespread in the wake of COVID-19 and the financial impact on artists and arts organizations around the world has become a harsh reality. If you would like to support us during this difficult time, please consider making a tax-deductible gift to Kahilu Theatre.
Educational activities at Kahilu Theatre will be postponed until further notice.
We are working with those organizations who rent the Kahilu Theatre to either reschedule their events or cancel them at this time. If you have tickets to one of those events, the event producer will be in contact with you.
We will continue to monitor this challenging situation and review all actions recommended by our public health experts. Thank you very much for your understanding and patience with us as we find our way back to being a place where community, creativity, and inspiration thrive.
With gratitude and aloha,
Deb Goodwin Chuck Gessert
